Motorist robbed of cash, cell phone

A Kingston man has been slapped with several charges following the robbery of a motorist along John's Lane, in the parish last Saturday.

The man has been identified as 38-year-old Osaka Gillespie of Mark Lane. Sleuths attached to the Kingston Central Police Division have charged him with robbery with violence, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony. Reports from the police are that at 9 a.m., Gillespie, armed with a firearm, entered a man's vehicle after he stopped along the roadway to allow another vehicle to pass. He reportedly struck the driver on the head with the firearm before robbing him of a cellular phone, a modem, and cash amounting to $21,000 before fleeing the scene on foot.

A report was made to the police, and Gillespie was apprehended and subsequently charged on Tuesday. His court date is being finalised.
